Aside from all the hate it was actually an amazing game to spectate

Dragons went 1 nil up early from a penalty

Game was pretty even for the rest of the first half until a dragon player got sent off for a second yellow a couple minutes before half time.

Rovers were pushing for an equaliser second half but dragons were holding out and catching Rovers on the break.

Dragons scored a second from a counter attack and probably could have scored 2 more if it wasn't for bad finishing.

With about 30 to go Rovers went all out attack and scored 2 in about 5 minutes to even it up.

It looked like they had a third but was called back for offside. The scorer then thought it would be a good idea to have a go at the lino when he wasn't even the person offside and got sent off for it.

20 minutes to go score is 2 all 10v10

Rovers.score a 3rd with 15 5o go and celebrate crazy in front of the dragons bench.

Dragons equalise with 10 to go and the get a winner with 5 to go and givr it back to the Rovers..

Very entertaining game to watch. Good luck to all teams playing semis

Jeez, thanks for the write up. Definitely sounds like it would've been a good one to watch. The write up has further warmed my heart and possibly even made everyone's weekend. A red card for an offside protest that wasn't even the offender was my favourite bit.

Thanks Dragons

Thanks Dragons for knocking out those grubs. IMO they actually pip saints for being the most unlikabke team in the comp, except that saints are worse at football. Shame you Dragons couldn't string enough wins together this year. You were certainly hard to beat. Look forward to playing you next year.

Good game first half. Very even, two defensively strong sides with good keepers, Normo maybe edged the midfield but Lions looked more threatening in general.

Game changed on penalty early in second half. Seemed like a foul although my angle wasn't great, second yellow did seem a little harsh but there was apparently raised studs although again not easy to see from my angle.

From that point Normo seemed to implode mentally. Whinging and bitching about decisions, conceded again quickly, had another player sin-binned but regained composure with 10 to go and with Lions resting players Normo got one back and gave it a good go without creating chances for an equaliser.

Decent game to watch and will be interesting now to see what players Lions get back from injury and absence in two weeks time to see if they can do another double.

Having 5 teams that can make spots 2-4 in the last round is good for the comp. Not sure why the hatred for Rovers. I suspect it's just a couple of individuals rather than a general theme as I've seen them a few times this year and last year and they were fine other than a flog supporter or two.

If they threw away a spot in the finals by going a man down abusing a lino then thats just dumb. Sinbins and reds for abuse are there for the stupid. Get some discipline and leadership. Normo, Dragons and couple of others are worse whingers than Rovers in the games I've seen tho.

Winning any premiership is not down to one forfeit or injuries or whatever, so well done Rovers ressies.

Good luck to all the teams in the finals

pfft 2nd 3rd and 5th all with negative GD what a joke. Rubbish comp still.

wrote on 30-Jul-23 14:28

It is a bit worrying seeing so many teams with negative GD and it's especially jarring when you see west penno with +34 at the top. But I think it's a bit of a stretch to say the whole comp is rubbish, aside from the first grade premiership, ressies premiership and both grades finals spots were still competitive to the very end so can't have too many complaints. At least it was entertaining.

Goal difference

It shows you those teams with positive goal differences who didn't make finals really should have and let themselves down with some inconsistent results.

I love how Penno pretend to be the nicest blokes out there and then behave like absolute animals to get the opposition sent off. Thankfully our player didn't react to this rubbish and kept his cool.
Was really disappointing to see.

Yeah ok mate this never happened... the young touchie was mistaken with what she saw which is why the ref himself admitted there was no need to take any action. Neither Dan nor the Ryde player were in the wrong, they both laughed about it. Was a very clean match played in good spirits by all.

One-eyed opinion
wrote on 31-Jul-23 14:59

Was only a clean match cause the ref had to intervene and speak to you lot about not goading our player.

Btw, the touchie wasn't mistaken. She clearly saw the contact that your player made with the elbow and tried to alert the ref about it. Ref just didn't want to hand out a red cause it was end of the season. If that was any other game, it would been a 5 week ban.

Being the ref - not much to comment on this. A little bit of back and forth chat between Jimmy and a couple of the Penno players but it all died down. The incident in the box was a little bit of niggle from both players but both players laughed it off and no one called for any significant action to be taken. Linesman just wanted to make sure that the Penno defender didn't cross the line again.

All in all, a good friendly match. Really enjoyable to referee. The boys basically refereed themselves.

Whatever mate. Linesman don't have a 1 minute chat with you just to make sure a player doesn't 'cross the line'. She clearly was indicating that an elbow was used to harm our player and that a pen and a red card should have been actioned.

But hey, that's fine. You just want to be liked and not have to make any hard decisions. That would have been a red card any other week but because of inconsistent refs like you, it wasn't. It is what it is but I prefer if you don't come on here and blantantly lie.

At least that's better than the refs that swear at and insult players the whole game as they know we can't do anything about it.

You try to put a complaint in about them? They just deny and say you're making it up as you're salty about the referring.

There are much worse refs out there.

everyone hates rovers because of all their whinning and carry on. Oh yeah and the favourtism from the Refs. Most likely their first red car of the season becuse the stupid yelled F_____ C and ref had no choice. The AR was a decent Ref that took no crap from Rovers.

I don't get it. If your own player did not make much fuss about this then why on should a ref have to ruin a game and potentially finals football because of a technicality?

If what you are saying is correct then the ref has over-ruled the linesman in favour of using common sense and not escalating a situation that can be dealt with better with good player management.

I think we should be applauding more refs who allow for a little bit more physicality, who let the game flow but also pull up on dangerous play and who use common sense and calm things down without having to produce a mountain of cards.

It's sad to say but there's not many refs who have done this season. Unbelievable that Penno vs Saints fixture had a ref that seems to have demonstrated this and yet there is one salty Saint who still want to have a whinge.
