Penno worked back into it and after conceding a penalty were definitely on top and got their equaliser as they started to run over the top. Extra time didn't last too long but was a similar trend to the end of the game, whole ET period was played in EEW half and a good finish to win it.

Gotta say the referee was pretty abysmal, consistently inconsistent, often caught not watching the play and having to ask ARs/4th for confirmation on everything and then didn't give 2 pretty decent pen shouts late in the 2nd half (1 for each team). Funniest thing he did all game was having to stop to get a magnesium tablet from the Penno bench as he was cramping.

He looked like the ref that refereed the 2022 Grand Final. Never been a fan of this ref but I've heard he's one of the more highly rated refs so maybe this is the new standard that we all gotta get use to?

It's a shame that the referee is even being talked about after a final. He's definitely not the best we have, there are definitely better refs within the association but NWSF refuse to reward 1. Cup Finalists with decent referees and 2. the best performing refs with the best appointments.
Grant, Juice, Nick (4th official in the final), even Tom E (president of the refs) are all better appointments for a Gilmour Cup final. Grant was refereeing the women's final which looked like walking football at times (no disrespect intended) and more suited to the men's final referee. It's a failure in operations, mangement, governance, whatever you want to call it, at the NWSF level. There was zero promotion of the final itself which has already been talked about, and then the appointment of that ref just makes it that much more obvious that there is a huge disconnection from both reality and the NWS football community.
It's a shame, because the game of football itself was quite good. I thought EEW dominated 3/4 of the game and definitely should've been up by a couple of goals at HT. Penno did well to absorb the pressure and took their two best chances in the game. Something EEW failed to do.
Based on the football, it's going to be an interesting/exciting season ahead. Based on the refereeing, it'll be another frustrating season ahead.
Heard a rumour that the Premier League reps are catching up with the refs association as some point before the season starts. Not sure what the go is but sounds like a forum to talk through issues.
I hope some reps make it known and are heard about the issues with refs.
