Bottom 4 will comprise of Penno, North Ryde, Mac D and Hawks

Genuinely think Penno will go down which would not be ideal as they have the best pitch in the comp!

Losing a host of club stalwarts apparently and supposedly there under 18s pushing up into ressies.

Coach Habib surely under pressure the most

Jimmy
wrote on 21-Nov-23 12:47

Penno are losing quite a few; Captain Pedro rumoured to be considering playing 35s, firsts keeper is gone, as is their bulldog Nicksy, Rhys Bato, Haz Browne, the two left backs and a couple of other stalwarts. Under 18s did win their comp so that could strengthen their ressies team who obviously did very well this season winning the final, however one would have to question the lack of quality and finishing ability in that firsts team. Not far fetched to expect them to get relegated given the past few seasons, those losses and if North Ryde are somewhat decent it could be curtains for them at premier league which would actually be remarkable as they're the only club to not be relegated from Premier League (not including teams that were promoted from Super League and have stayed up since)

I've heard that Macca is coaching Tigers this season. He's contacted other clubs players offering cash and has already signed a few, as well as 2-3 decent NPL players he knows and his little bestie Peatey. Why they would want to go to Boronia who knows. Tigers odds might be shortening.

The same thing will happen this season like every other season. Higher-level player has come down to play in Premier League. They'll be an average player surrounded by a team of donkeys and they'll get the shits and leave the next season.

By all accounts seems like coach habib most under pressure going into this season

One thing is for sure

normo are going to play their boring brand of running and no technical ability

they might get the record for draws this season

Ravens
wrote on 29-Dec-23 16:11

North Ryde need to sign some experience. Their keeper was the only player above the age of 22 in their first grade squad and he's now gone.

Can easily see the likes of Normo, Hawks, Woodies, Penno, actually pretty much any team wipe the floor against them. A little bit of physicaility and they go crying to the ref cause they are so small.

Won't work in Premier League. They either need to toughen up or hope their technicality will get them some lucky points here and there.

If you look at teams like West Penno from 2018 onwards, they were relatively a young squad but still had some solid senior guys in their squad to lift them to the top. Even Woodies I heard last season were god awful but bringing back 2 senior guys got them almost to the Top 4. North Ryde don't have that all. Physicality > Technical in our comp.

What an absolute gee up.

WPH have the biggest, most consistent squad and are favourites.

EEW with big T leaving, might struggle, Hawks apparently have been cleaned out including the coach, mac dragons looks like they have lost their coach too, so plenty of changes.

Nobody from North Ryde is trying to divert attention champ. We know we'll be a contender for years. We've got the best young talent in the league.

WPH shouldn't even be mentioned. Most of their players should be in over 35s. Won't be able to keep when they visit Magdala

I think a lot of the WPH squad will be playing over 35's. But the majority don't qualify for at least another 10 years so you'll have to get used to being beaten for as long as you manage to avoid relegation.

agree with this, da penno ressies team seemed well drilled and worked way harder

defence of their first grade team was woeful. Players asking to come off if tired and not even hurt

must be some divide between firsts and ressies squads or even the coaches there?

wrote on 08-Jan-24 21:08

It's a shame. If they selected the right squad, they'd be the only team to challenge North Ryde.

Jimmy
wrote on 09-Jan-24 15:06

Normo - no coach, rudimentary running style game no technical ability but they have a never say die attitude that keeps them in matches. Probably evidnced as per all the draws they had last season. No word on whether theyve replaced coach or brought in any new players. Prediction top 4 is possible again, don't think they can come close to winning but should be safe from any relegation talk.

St Pats- surprise package of last season, seemed to come good in latter stages of season and unlucky by all accounts not to get a grand final win. Big, strong, technically good. Would assume they only get better in both grades. Backing them for another top 4 finish and possible grand final win this time around.

West Penno - Coach Covers picked up where former coach Stu left them, On top of the table. Expect they might improve in ressies this season and are obviously clear favourites yet again to take out the lot. Rumours of picking up a few rival players seem to be doing the rounds. Could be something that works against them but I back them to make it 5 titles in the last 6 year and 3 in a row.

Penno - honestly not sure what it is. Could just be a changing of the guard. Seem to have a new coach every year at this point. Used to be a perennial top 4 side, won the title back in 2017 which somehow seems a lifetime ago now. Close to being relegated past couple of years. If the newly promoted are any decent, could be the end of a long time in premier league. Prediction bottom 3.

Hawks - by all accounts coach has finally been sacked. Was a stalwart in the league, so we wish him best. Hard to predict. Have some quality players and then a bunch of not so quality players. Can't see them finishing higher than mid table but also have the potential to be dragged into a relegation battle. Prediction anywhere between 7th to 9th.

Mac Dragons - did they or didnt they win 2021? Not sure we can give them that but one thing is for sure they were on fire that season and have been very underwhelming since. Prediction - relegation battle, anywhere between 7th to last.

North Ryde - newcomers. Always difficult to perform, St Pats and Dragons put that myth to bed but the Epping clubs that have since been relegated showed it can be quite the difficult feat making the jump from Super League to PL. Probably will come last, but if teams like Penno, Dragons, Woodies and Hawks struggle again, you just never know.

West Ryde - rough, tough, have shown in both grades they can turn it on but a rather disappointing end for the firsts team last season. If kye can get that form from a couple of years ago i expect them to be back in that top 4 this season. Rumours of picking up a few Ryde Saints players doing the rounds.

Epping Eastwood - probably the worst and most difficult ground to play on. Seems like Macca is taking over. Not sure if in player coach capacity or purely coaching. Not sure whether theyve picked up players but you can expect them to be a difficult match up in any game and in any grade. Prediction - 4th.

Woodies - Might be another relegation battle, however they came out convincingly clear in the latter stages of last season thanks to the return of some club stalwarts and veterans. Reserves team left a lot to be desired,up there with some of the weakest performing ressies sides in recent year. If they start slowly again the rest of the competition may be a little more ruthless this time. Prediction: can't see them finishing higher than 6th and getting relegated definitely isnt out of the question.

Ryde Saints won't be forming a SL team this season. It's over for them.

Big question is where do half of their best players go from here.

North Ryde merger ain't happening either. North Ryde are feeling pretty confident with the squad they have (as well as adding a couple of former Spirit players) to compete and not get relegated.

Woodies won't be relegated. Penno could but saying that they do this wonderful trick where they look like they will be relegated and then manage to string some results to avoid the drop

Absolutely took it to the castle hill prem team who won the hills comp last year. Didn't win but matched them, even with many players out with injuries. Showing great prospect for the season.
