Couple of years back, representatives from the senior group refs met with PL coaches/managers for a drink and a chat for the up coming season, talked about expectations, rule changes etc. Was a good idea but not all refs were there. Hasn't happened since though Covid put pay to it last season. Technically speaking, it is not the refs responsibility to educate players on the LOTG or their updat

Starting out in the mid 90s as a young GK, I dreaded Saturday afternoon spent at Boronia. I remember one game I had an absolute blinder of a game but still conceded 5 lol. I haven't seen too many teams like that EEW side of the 90s. No real x factor player or team of champions, just an outright champion team. In saying that, Toss, Whiteside, Meat (only ever knew them by nickname though Whiteside

Would depend on the player and team to which you could have that ‘humorous’ exchange with Alan, and delivery and exchange would need to be very tongue in cheek no doubt. I like a banter but am careful with sarcasm especially when it’s condescending to the player and dependant very much on the ‘tone’ of the game.

NWSFA has its dark incidences as well though. So far this season we’ve had a referee being followed back home upon which a spectator drove next to him and started hurling abuse at him. A referee walking back to the carpark whereby spectators started aggressively yelling at him for the ‘shit’ game he had. Junior referees aged 15 and younger being mocked, ridiculed and harassed at Under 13 games an

And what perhaps contributed to referee shortages in that comp do you think Rock?

Dragons coach, the TD rule was partly introduce to avoid the accruing of unnecessary formal cautions for such actions - to keep players on the pitch. I don’t think it’s a bad thing but many fellow persons in black did when it came in. Perhaps some refs are grey a little between what’s player frustration and what’s decent which is where it comes unstuck a little. This is where the refs instruction

Well Keith, not to be divided by loyalties of course, but statistically speaking, whilst KEN did win two double doubles that I was proud to part of, they didn’t win a double double double. In any competition, regardless of opinions of standard, that’s not to be sneezed at when one is throwing around terms like ‘dominance’. Is NWSFA PL as strong as it were yesteryear?... that’s a good debate perha

Evening gentleman, There’s been an increase in this over the season with directions given to referees now to enforce. Just a reminder re the wearing of jewellery and players believing it can be taped up. From the referee’s direction The Laws of The Game prohibit this. - If a player has tape that can clearly be seen covering jewellery, eg stud earrings or a ring, these must be removed be

Ken back in the day, struggle in those comps? Not the squad the year Ken lost the CoC final to Dunbar Rovers. That squad was legit next level and would definitely compete in any of those associations, indeed a few seasons back then. The thing people forget about Ken from that era was it’s culture. If ever there was an example of a ‘winning’ culture, Ken exemplified it. Even when not playing well,

No excuses, curious was the DOGSO appeal in or out of the pen box? As for the AR’s response if indeed is what transpired, whilst perhaps unnecessary and disappointing that it was communicated to your son in the first place, each centre ref has pregame instructions for the ARs. These are completely up to the centre and how they wish to have the game officiated. Among many things, this may inclu

Agreed Rock, the Penno derby was a goodie... that was the 10 seasons (might have been more, might have been less, I lost count) of no wins I was referring to. The Penno derby went longer than I was around though with the Iredales/Moro show before my time. It was made spicier with the defection of the Seales/Boz to PEN and Bison from PEN to WPH on a lower note. Covers, Manuels and Matthews (not th

I'm going to say from a historical perspective... plus I'll add, it was never a hatred but more a disliking. Spectators 22 years playing in PL and by far the worst spectators in my time were KEN when they first came up from SL... yes I get the irony coming from me having played out my last 4 seasons with KEN. But no one was off limits to the Major and his boys in what seemed 90 minutes withou
