A quick five year analysis of the Ravens PL to see why they are third last in 1sts and consistently in the bottom three of ressies. Around 5 years back Gio blessed us all with his presence in the ghfa and fought hard to keep Ravens from being relegated. Then he went on to win the grand final and the following year premiership with a very talented squad. Runners up in CoC as well. However in the last two seasons he has obviously lost his knack with very uninspiring performances placing 1sts close to the bottom. Is he to blame? Should he move on? Maybe a coaching role in O45's is more up his alley? A playing role in that age bracket certainly is.

Success for Ravens coincided with a few new recruits including some previous RAV PL players who returned from Spirit FC, and some others who weren't RAV juniors but came along on the back of Gio's scouting and to play with mates. Most of those players have sinced moved on and the replacement isn't of the same quality, that's all. Nothing to do with Gio lossing "his knack" I believe. Just a different team that's not as strong as the one that had success a few years back that's all. Think of it as rebuilding. ... and Chris Gio is too young for 45s

I have to agree with you rick. The year we played you guys, Chris was very commanding in the backline and guided the team around much like a tug boat does to a large crew ship. Having a raging pshyopath in front of him always helpt his cause, but i guess with you gone someone else has stepped up?

Firstly, my bro is a very good coach. Technically very good and no question he has good people skills. In the last 12 months he has lost a heap of high quality experienced players like Robbo, kidd, Adi, Hunter, Miller boys, etc and this year he has promoted youth in first grade and the Ravens have some very talented young players coming through. I have watched them play a couple of games this year and I feel they play better football as a team that we did last year with some big name players. The turning point of the year was the season ending injury to my bro (Tore his hamstring off the bone) and the suspension to Darcy as these two guys were in the engine room and the main two boys who created a lot of there play. A young side without a great deal of GHFA experience then struggled initially but in saying that the boys who did play in the middle, namely Ash and Sheepy were both outstanding. If my bro does coach again next year and even more importantly plays I feel that with the years experience for a lot of these young boys they will be up there and pushing for the finals.

DB missing this year too makes a big difference to the centre of the park

Was it the loss of those 2 then as well that contributed to them leaking so many goals?

No just the loss of Gio obviously

Seany is a born leader. We love him at the bush. Unless you have been coached by him, you have no right to comment on his man management skills. One thing is for sure. You can't win a first grade premiership without a cohesive squad, let alone 2, potentially 3.

A late buy in on this one, but not sure you can lay the blame for the Ravens current position on Gio. Gio came in 5 or 6 years back when Ravens were perennial relegation battlers..... with me and with me/Fatcat as coaches...:) He avoided relegation as well in his first season with effectively the same team that we had had the previous season with the addition of Navid Varess. Across the next 2 seasons he then brought in the likes of Richo, Artie Macerola, the Miller brothers etc....and Matt Hunter, Oppy, DB, Aaron Kidd etc all joined along with Matty Roberts and Ross Kethel returning from Spirit. So he built up a pretty handy team that won one GF and a Premiership and were GF runners up and COC grand finalists in the space of 2 years - not a bad effort. Now apart from Oppy, all the above mentioned players have moved on - Ross and Kidd back to Spirit, DB travelling, Matty to Adelaide, Hunts to another association and Artie and Richo retired to O35s etc. He has therefore been left with a largely inexperienced and young squad, that given a couple of years of playing together will hopefully be back up vying for a top 4 finish.......and but for a season ending injury to himself and a lengthy spell on the sidelines for Darcy, they may have been a little further up the table than they are currently. Hopefully he keeps on managing the team again next year......although Richo is no doubt trying to sign him for Penno O35s as we speak :)

No mate I can not afford to bring him to Penno as if BOZ comes across my position in the team could be made redundant. I am hoping the specialist gives him to all clear to go around again and if so, I want to see him play PL again. I have seen limited games this year but I have no doubt that in twelve months time they will be a real top four threat, particularly if he plays. The loss of Darcy and himself was big but it has resulted in others stepping up and taking there game to a new level. Joe has been ultra impressive in his first year in the PL. Chris H is a super young player. Ash K has taken his game to a whole new level and I know my brother feels that his young stopper (Piercy, I think it is) is as good as any defender in the league. Positive signs ahead for Ravens for the future.

Obviously you don't know too much about kenthurst Rick. One night of training, can make considerations for the likes of boz. plenty of beers after training and games. Boz will fit in nicely.
