We have Beecroft next wednesday night but looking for another game maybe at Christie Park. I think Morro was suggesting Wednesday night or a sunday arvo the week after? If we can get around 8 players and use some of our ressies that will do.

Although the season has ended for most of us, we still have Penno representing us in the Champion of Champions. How about a little unity by giving them our support.
Where and when are they playing.

Finally a game that may go some of way in gauging the difference between PL and SL. Although it is PL's Prems vs the 4th place in SL, this should give some indication to RED about PL quality. Many times have I read from posters that pre-season doesn't count and I agree the comparison is difficult that early in the season.

Realising that nobody is playing for competition points and not ALL players from either camp may turn out, it will still make for interesting reading to see the result. I hope the BEEs turn up and have a good crack, because PEN 35/1s play the Penno PL lads on Sunday, and if we loose by less than BEE, I will give it to the ROCK something royal :)

They lost 3-0 to a pretty good Auburn side.
It was nowhere near as "physical" as i thought it would be, and the Auburn side knocked the ball around well.
They didn't mind having a ping from outside the area either.

Penno pretty much owned the first 30mins, but couldn't score and actually went down 1-0 to a piece of good skill from the Auburn left mid, and a couple of average attempted tackles from the real young Penno kids (16 and 18yrs I think).
After that the game was pretty even until about 20mins to go when Penno had to chase and conceded a couple more.

I thought the game was won in the attcking third by a team who were good on the ball and finished well.

Duck
wrote on 11-Oct-10 16:01

They weren't softer just not panel beaters.

They also didn't have more skill, i think you misunderstood. The report was saying it was a surprise a team from Granville had a high skill level.

Enjoy the break boys, pre-season is 3 months away

Cynic
wrote on 11-Oct-10 16:08

Which is usually what is said about Penno. Strang eto hear that a side that we would have thought as panel beaters were had the better touch and finishing than Penno but were softer in teh physical stakes. Bizarro world has arrived.

What I love most of all about this forum is idiots who have achieved nothing in the game getting on and bagging teams behind a computer. Penno were without a doubt the most consistent side in 2010 and as a result represented GHFA in the COC. If they win nothing is mentioned but if they get beaten due to playing poorly or just the bounce of the ball does not go there way then they are Chokers. Get real. Well done to Kurt and the entire Penno squad in a successful 2010. The Ravens look forward to more hard battles in 2011.

And no, i dont play for penno, but ive played CoC, and you have to be a fairly decent team to win ur local association and even get the chance to play in this competition. Its called 'champions of champions' for a reason.

Anyway, I was surprised and now confused to see Auburn playing Yagoona in the Semi final next game.
No wonder we can't get anywahere in the CofC's as the posters here can't even get our facts correct. We are all idiots !!!!

Bucks
wrote on 14-Oct-10 09:00

Given that there have been a few forfiets in the Champion of Champions this year (which is taking nothing away from Penno's effort) I think they should review how and when the comp is played.

Why not have the knockout tournament over two weekends straight after each associations grand finals?

Teams all have a sqaud of 30-40 players so should be able to field teams for 2 games on the Saturday and two games on the Sunday, with the two teams left at the end of the weekend returning the following week to play the Grand Final.

This way you would have teams in peak condition (not in off season), have bigger crowds as more people will come and watch a tournament if multiple teams and games are on at the same place and it's all over in 2 weeks!

Just a thought...

Yagoona Lions 3 v North Sydney 6
wrote on 25-Oct-10 17:05

North Sydney played a near perfect 90 minutes of football to secure the Mens All Age Champion of Champions title for 2010 against Yagoona Lions. The Ku-ring-gai District side managed to master the wet conditions quickest, and ran out comfortable 6-3 winners, with the Lions finishing the match with nine men following the dismissal of two players in the second-half for double cautions.

A timid opening to the match was brought to life in the 8 minute as James Kenney sent in a cross for North Sydney from the right. The whipped in effort picked out Mouheiz Sakouhi, who anticipated the goalkeeper, though failed to direct his header on target.

At the other end, Oliver Veljanovski hit the Lions ahead with a tremendous shot from distance. Veljanovskis shot packed power and precision, with the ball finishing in the top left-hand corner and leaving North Sydney goalkeeper David Sharp with no chance.

Yagoona nearly doubled their lead via Tom Markovski moments later, though despite the midfielders strength and persistence to turn his marker could only send his shot directly at Sharp.

North Sydney found their equaliser in the 15 minute as Benjamin Cook was on hand to divert the ball home. Lions goalkeeper Goran Jovanovski failed to deal with a Daniel Boys corner from the right, leaving Cook with an easy finish to draw the side level.

With the momentum swinging completely in favour of North Sydney, Gary Parker stepped up to drive home Kenneys low-driven cross from the right into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.

Cook should have made it 3-1 moments later, though Jovanovski in the Lions goal spread himself well to close the angle and send the ball behind the goal line for a goal kick.

North Sydney did get their third goal before the break courtesy of Daniel Talbot. The strikers initial shot on goal was well saved by Jovanovski, though the rebound fell into the path of Kenney who was again the provider, setting up Talbot who finished with aplomb.

Yagoona Lions started the second-half on the right foot with Chris Risteski and Vlado Kiparizov creating the chances. The latter forced Sharp into a fine reflex save with a powerful volley, before hitting his second attempt wide of the target moments later following a neat display of skill on the edge of the penalty-area.

Vlado Kiparizov was denied again by the goalkeeper in the 51 minute when his left-footed inswinger from the right-flank was tipped onto the crossbar by the North Sydney shot-stopper.

Despite all the running surrounding Yagoona, North Sydney made a swift counter-attack up field with Sakouhi making it 4-1 at his second attempt.

Tom Markovski, arguably the Lions best player on a difficult afternoon, tried to spur his side on, using his strength and skill to create a yard to drive an effort only inches wide of the mark.

Markovski did get his name on the score sheet in the 63 minute, combining with Steve Nadenovski to reduce the deficit to two.

Yagoonas afternoon took a bad turn when Veljanovski was shown his second yellow card for a foul on the North Sydney goalkeeper, leaving the Bankstown District side with ten-men.

North Sydney made the most of the numerical advantage in the 73 minute as Sakouhi grabbed his brace following a fine exchange of passes to make it 5-2.

The Lions were reduced to nine-men 10 minutes from time as Bale Giorgioski was also given an early shower for a second yellow card offence, leaving the Lions with an impossible task ahead of them.

Daniel Talbot added a sixth for North Sydney following another fine build between three players. Even with the wet conditions, North Sydney managed to move the ball nicely across the park, and Talbots second for the afternoon was real testament to the sides achievement.

Despite the numerical disadvantage Tom Markovski grabbed a third goal for the Lions, driving a fierce diagonal effort through the goalkeepers legs and into the back of the net.

In all fairness Yagoona are not that good.
How they won last year I will never know as there is much better teams.
Plus they were not that intelligent.
One guy spitting at a ref in a final??
Should be banned for life.

Only one decent player who was their striker and the rest not that good.

A lot of huff and puff but nothing to show.
No idea how they made it to the GF.

Pittwater and North Sydney should have been the final.
Both decent attack minded footballing teams.
Not long ball merchants.

Pitts were decent though and ran the ball well.

I saw the North Sydney game against Yagoona. Norths absolutely bossed it. Simple reason for them allowing yagoona to score is they knew they would thrash them and switched off. Yagoona was a team of low intelligence nobody players. Dumb clowns. The club should have been fined and never allowed back in to champ of champs again after their behaviour!! One player spat at the ref. Big tough guy. Dumb dumb more like it. He was their worst football player too. Either way Pittwater should have been the final team with north Sydney. Instead of that bunch of fools. Oh well at least they got a lesson that day. Not that they've ever had one before as I reckon most never went to school lol
