Its true the Tiger Train was still being greased up in the shunting sheds, they were easily the worst teams there today. Tiger odds to widen big time. Turner was there in the stands but didn't play plus no Moyis nor Raeburn. Hammer was there and is a spent force. Best Tiger all day was the Hoff by a country mile.
His shot from a corner and then 100 metre sprint to actually beat the ball to the goal line was worth giving up my saturday for.
Long season down epping way with the Y, Nerds and Tigers battle relegation.

Hey slow down Juice, surprised you don't check your facts before going on about people slagging off GHFA and particularly about this comp. When i checked this thread with its 60 or so posts, it looks something like:

12 posts supported the comp - 20%
11 put forward some constructive views about how it could be improved - 18%
28 really had no opinion or just made neutral comments - 47%
9 slagged it (on one ground or another) - a pretty lowly 15%

Nothing wrong with constructive criticsm anyhow and there were many good points on how the idea could be improved, including consulting with the PL teams - bigger question is whether GHFA is interested?

Don't take this as a criticism though

Just a general statemement Mr statistician not necessarily directed at the topic of this thread but more over GHFA across numerous threads for being 'boring and lacking in initiative compared to other associations', but thanks for your time on crunching the numbers.

don't think he's coaching, just playing

:don't think he's coaching, just playing

bbbbbbut that's even worst. Don't they have plenty of classy speedy upfront players? Find it odd they have a vacancy for Batts on the playing roster and not coaching roster.

If you give Batts at chance, even at 45 years old like he is now, he was punish you. The guy knows where the back of the net is.

Have to say, I was against this GHFA golden goal tournament from day 1. But to my surprise, it actually worked out quite well. The refs seemed to handle the dropping of 2 players every 2min quite well (although, yes there were a few inconsistencies which I dont think anyone really minded too much), all teams put in, and as someone else said, wathcing The Hoff impersonate Carl Lewis over 60m, knees driving, arms pumping, to stop the ball on the goal line (subsequently resulting in a win for his team) was worth the entry price alone!

I'll put my hand up and admit I may have been a little to quick to judge, however, my first point stands - there were a few niggles and injuries which may have been prevented with less stop-start procedures. But I guess thats the price you pay...
Well done GHFA.

It was alright, a few errors, lunch being 1 1/2 hours, refs with different interpretations, when it come to 1 on 1, some refs said you cant play it twice from a goal kick or throw in, which had one game , have a one on one with the tigers guy dancing around the ball for about 30 secs, after the kenthurst guy threw it in. but it WAS enjoyable to participate in, on the whole

Saturday 27 February at Christie Park saw the birth of a new concept tournament between the teams in the local Gladesville-Hornsby Premier League / Super League and GHFA Spirit. The Golden Goal Tournament took the format of 10 minute games in which 2 players were removed from the field every 2 minutes with the aim to score a goal as quickly as possible. The fastest goal was scored in 40 seconds but most games went nearly the full distance making it a test of endurance as well as a lot of fun.

The Final was fought out by Spirit A and Kenthurst A with Spirit being triumphant in the end however all games throughout the day were hard fought with many going to a one on one situation really testing the stamina of the players.

A sliding scale of points was awarded for the time slot in which the winning team in each game scored.

Final points after the 36 games were –

20 points - Spirit A
16 points – Kenthurst A
15 points – Normanhurst
12 points – Spirit B
11 points – Kenthurst B
7 points - West Pennant Hills
7 points - Macquarie Uni
5 points - Epping Eastwood A
3 points - Epping Eastwood B

Everyone on the day, including the referees, agreed it was a fun day and really worthy of continuing as an annual event.

The day was a good hit out in terms of fitness, though im not too sure the format allows for any decent style of football to be played. I guess that's what teams need to take into consideration if entering a team.

I agree that it was a good day all round, though some tweaks to it should be made.

Turner was there in the stands but did not play, perhaps the reason why EEW lacked, plus Mouyis/Raeburn was not there either.

I would not right off the Tiger Train.

May have been without 5 firstgraders but still had enough subs for both their teams to not have to worry about legs late in the game.
