Appreciate the effort by the GHFA but the format is all wrong.

Surely a smaller sided game like a 6-a-side competition would be more worthwhile for the players involved and the spectators in terms of entertainment.

I guess the GHFA should be congratulated for taking some initiative, and who knows, if the right support is thrown behind it, it could be the first step towards kicking off an FA cup style competition between the SL and PL teams.

You might only get 4 minutes of football if you concede a goal early in each of your group games - not that great for fitness.

most games won't run 10 mins. maybe 6-8 or less.

You'd be lucky to get 25-35 mins in total over the 4 games. what a crock...

Are there filters on this site or sonething? What's with the symbols/special characters when people wish to express themselves so eloquently with the use of colourful metaphors.

yep start at 8:30 & gauranteed to end by 10:30am latest.. then you can resume your own trial games 1hr 30min games elsewhere.

This idea of a golden goal with a max of 10 min play is just a waste of time for fitness.

GHFA - go back to your drawing board cos we are not going to waste a hundred bucks for a couple of 5 min games.

I Think its a good idea how many goals did KEN score in 90 mins? Lets give it a go. as Major said something different. It will test the so called golden boot scores and the defence.

At least it's something....might not be perfect but if you don't support this initiative and give constructive feedback they won't do anything in the future.

Agree with Duck. Most peeps have a whinge about the lack of drive, respect and/or initiative that GHFA shows Premier League during the season (eg - an FA Cup style comp).

Although it is not perfect as far as the format is concerned, I think it is a fantastic start. Sure, the game is only scheduled for 10mins and will probably last less, but it privides everyone an opportunity to support their first intitive, then perhaps work with them to create something which is more suitable (eg - FA Cup 1 mid week game each week as suggested by others).

If you dont get involved with this now, there will be nothing next year. I am sure that the actual FA Cup and other comps like it, didn't start with the same format as they run with now - it is about evolution.

Perhaps some people have forgotten why they play football? FUN - it could be a great day with your team mates, as well as your mates from other teams, having a great laugh whilst still being competative.

It also provides everyone with (a) bragging rights before the season, and (cool smiley a chance for some Super League teams to actually show their wares on the big stage.

KEN scored the same ammount as THL.

Although we did score more penalties and have a pennant to prove it.

Ravens won't be.

I think it's a poorly planned idea. Teams would most likely have 4-6 weeks training under their belt, with minimal match strength and fitness. Going 2 on 2 etc on a full field (no matter how short a time frame) is asking for injuries at that time of year.

What would be better is an FA Cup Style Knockout with PL SL and AA1 teams entering.

Been mentioned a thousand times before but would be a great competition.

make it within the GHFA and play midweek fixtures.

Obviously GHFA didnt consult with anyone in PL or SL regarding this comp. It is a good idea in theory, but i cant see many if any teams jumping at this chance.

Rather than f**king off this idea, someone should approach GHFA and let them know why PL teams arent interested, as if they think we arent interested, we may never get the format we want.

I have it on good authority that the GHFA monitor this site so will know the views of most.

Problem is they are too high an mighty to ever acknowledge it. Agree they have a lot to learn about proper consultation rather than just sitting at Christie decreeing one thing and another.

Cmon GHFA take some leadership and get out there and talk with the PL teams.

I have spoken to the GHFA and in the past many Coaches have mentioned the idea of a FA Cup style comp is not what the coaches want, as they get too many injuries playing on a Saturday then a mid week game (these are not elite players we are talking about) this is why only 1 or 2 clubs entered the State Cup this year, 1 game a week and 2 trainings is enough.

why don't they have an FA cup style competition BEFORE the season??? 1 per week.

We would play just as many trial games...

If PL or SL teams couldnt field 11 players from a squad of over 30, then we dont deserve a FA cup comp, but i think you'll find that most teams would welcome the extra games.

Most teams don’t enter State Cup as they have to play 2 games in 2 days. They may be more inclined to play midweek games though in a GHFA Cup.

"Not Hard"..........There are two hurdles in having a pre-season FA Cup type style of competition.

1. Playing against your regular PL opposition before the season starts. OK, you may get a game against a SL team, but it will be more likely that you will get drawn against a PL side after a couple of rounds. We all know that PL clubs dont play each other in trial games presently, purely because you prefer to build and fine tune your squad early on, before your regular season's opponents get a look at you.

2. It may also cause your squad's preparation to be underdone. If you enter this type of FA Cup comp, you would probably allow 3 or 4 Sundays to be spare, as most squads will think that they have a chance of winning it. This means that you dont book other clubs from outside associations for a trial game. If you then loose in the first couple of rounds of the pre-season 'FA Cup' you may not actually have anyone decent to play, as they have all been booked up.

Mid week is the only way to go - IMO

very pleased to see the association are having at go at doing something outside of the regular competition. I hope that our club is able to take part. If you were worried about injuries, then keen your *star* players in cotton wool and use mostly ressies or fringe players.
I doubt many teams would concede early, so as you take players off, the intensity is going to go up.
Sounds like fun, being out on your legs playing 7 vs 7 or 5 vs 5 dont it?

Umm I wonder, wonder. Yes we would leave our slowest, most unfit blokes on till the death so that they can dazzle them in teh corner and hold out for the penalty shoot out. You are an idiot.
