Well gents, doesn't April come around again fast! How will each of the 10 clubs fare this year? With the sorry demise of the Pumas it gives a fresh feel to the comp for season 2016 as we welcome Glenhaven and West Ryde to the big show. Time to run the rule over a new-look premier league competition for a new season:

EEW - Got away to a fast start last year and held on late in the season for a first title in years. If they've maintained their cattle you've got to think they'll be there and thereabouts again in 2016. Only a fool would read too much into their GHFA Cup belting at the hands of Penno, but will the stars align again for the Tigers in 2016?

Prediction: 3rd

Wild Prediction: Turner to net a double in Week 1 to bring to life a usually dour Eastwood derby (not all that wild admittedly... just warming up).

GLH - Finally worked their way to the summit of the SL in 2015 after being close in recent years. As with all squads their depth will be severely tested in the PL later in the season as injuries and suspensions mount. A steep learning curve lies ahead but expect them to stay around a few seasons to learn a few of said lessons.

Prediction: 8th

Wild Prediction: A rude welcome to the PL with WPH putting 5 past them in week one, only to return the favour against the Lions at home in Round 10.

HWK - Look set to benefit most from the dysfunction of the Pumas. With a few more quality players on the books the Hawks will be pushing hard for top honours this year. Likely rested players for their gimme cup tie this week to focus on the big local derby at Kenthurst this Saturday. Expect them to continue their meteoric rise of recent seasons all the way to a maiden PL title.

Prediction: 1st

Wild Prediction: Blake Rosier (assuming he's now a Hawk) for leading goal scorer in PL (now that's getting more wild!).

KEN - GHFA Cup and Ressies titles aside, 2015 was a disappointing year for the Bushboys. Have they woken up and smelt Stevie B's coffee? There's finally talk of injecting more youth into an ageing squad. But adding youth and assimilating youth into a functional squad are two very different things. Will the Bushies 'boys club' culture be able to achieve this? Either way too much class, especially with addition of Tim Simpson and the ex-Manly player, not to be in the mix for a title at season's end.

Prediction: 2nd

Wild Prediction: Roodenburg to lead the comp in both penalties scored and red card suspensions.

NMH - A young squad on the rise the Eagles could trouble a few of the bigger names in 2016. Their young keeper was close to the best in the comp last year and along with their fleet-footed strike force kept them in the hunt for finals until deep into 2015. But one suspects they would need to add some more experienced, mature heads to complement the youth and push for finals this season. Might be 2-3 years away from really challenging the stronger clubs over 18 games.

Prediction: 6th

Wild Prediction: If they've added some older heads and a bit of mongrel then the blue and white of Normo could emulate the blue and white of Leicester City and pull off the unthinkable!

PEN - Tim Green ripped the competition's defences a new one in 2015. But it seems the Green Machine have lost their Mr Green. Will rely on young Harrison Browne to step up and take on the mantle as chief goal scorer, but need to sort out defensive deficiencies of last year which saw them fall just short of finals football. Expect them to christen the new field with a goal fest against the Ravens in Round 1 but will season 2016 be a case of deja vu for Alby's boys - close but not close enough?

Prediction: 5th

Wild Prediction: Playing 9 games on synthetic they could possibly be the first team in PL history to score 50 and concede 50 in the same season.

RAV - Perennial battlers in the post crazy-eyes era the Ravens will again rely on attitude, desire, mongrel and a right old shin-kicking or two to stay up. Two things are guaranteed at Peel Park - a better than average (some would say competition leading) barbecue and a hard-fought physical contest. A sure sign as to their competitiveness over 18 rounds in first grade will be how their reserve grade performs. You need competition for spots and squad depth which Gladesville have struggled with for some time.

Prediction: 9th

Wild Prediction: Jackson Evans to take his game to a new level and challenge the best strikers in the league with his goal socring tally.

STA - Steady as she goes the boys from Eastwood should play their way into August action again in season 2016. Not fancy, not pretty, but effective and damn hard to break down the Woodies will be a thorn in the side of many teams once more. Coming off a close 2nd place finish last year and a grand final victory they'll be hoping to go one better in the regular season, but the added class of the Hawks, Bushboys and their Tiger cub neighbours should prevent that from happening.

Prediction: 4th

Wild Prediction: Park the bus style will results in more 0-0 score lines than a season of Italian national team intra-squad practice matches.

WPH - Jules looks to have coaxed some of the Pumas boys over to the Lions den which will make them more competitive in 2016. If they have retained their young strike duo of Olsson and Glavicar they will prove a real handful even for the top sides. But like Normo they need some older heads to complement the riches of youth they produce each year. Can't see them making a run at finals football quite yet as they rebuild after the Biason, Martens, Morsillo era.

Prediction: 7th

Wild Prediction: Like Penno last year will lead the competition in goals scored and still miss finals.

WRR - The law of gravity may affect the Rovers this year - what goes up... must come back down. Expect a short stay in the top flight for the chief beneficiaries of the Pumas' implosion. That said, they did finish neck and neck with Glenhaven in the SL last year so might surprise some. Can they learn the PL lessons fast enough and jag some unexpected points here and there, enough to stay up? One thinks not!

Prediction: 10th

Wild Prediction: Will win a game or two (I know, crazy talk right!!!!!).

Best of luck for the season, gents!

It's pretty simple really, Timmy is mates with a number of the boys as he is a vetern and wants to play club football with his mates!

I would have to agree with MR EUS, we have injected some of the younger talent which really amazes me as Sir Luke has taken a backwards step and Big Mac(I will refrain from using negative word at this time as he is doing what's in the clubs best interest) has taken back over!

The losses include:
-Inspector Huss who has left to focus on becoming a movie star since Arnie has retired
-Pauly Knippler who has left to focus on becoming a hair model
-Adam Biddle who didn't make the cut because he was too cool to train
-Nate Gray who didn't agree with benching reserve grade each week
-Ryan Crimi who has agreed to try a new range of hormonial tablet this season
and a number of other reserve graders who have done us proud last year.

But on the uptake we have picked up forbsie and timmy simpson plus a stack of juniors who will enjoy serving us old blokes with beers, bbq on the sideline and the occasional boot shine for the walk in first graders.

I hope our newly demoted coach, can dust off his ego and be the best captain this squad has ever seen!

Best of Luck with the season BigMac! Dust those hawks this weekend!
See you from the patio

KEN = biggest trophy hunters. Every year I hear that it's a long lost mate joining or played for KEN when he was 4 years old. Either way it doesn't matter. It's a couple of great pick ups and after last season they needed something in first grade to try and get back into the top 2. Hard to beat with Tim and the manly player

While i agree with your comment Terry, doesn't every team play to win? Can't help the fact that the club under BigMac has been so successful. What I didn't agree with until this year was the used up has beens who often took the up and coming(youth) places in reserve grade. Very excited to see Tim Simpson and Graham Forbes - Manly Player(for you rocky balboa) get on the pitch this weekend.

Mr Eus you have done well with your preview, of course its difficult to predict everything right but you seem to be on the money with alot of your predictions and reasoning. I have seen most of these teams in action, the top ones like Hawks, Kenthurst and EEW will all be therabouts and have a good squad, the most disapointing compared to last year are PEN, NORM and STA, with them not building and making improvements on last year. The biggest surprise has been Ravens who have been playing with alot of heart, and they have better depth this year. WR Rovers have really made a good start to the season and have attacked some teams hard, and have good backup from ressies as well. The team that has a really good mix of really young, and really old is West P Hills, they have 4 or 5 youngsters mixed in with 4 or 5 really old blokes, couple inbetween but not many. The old blokes steer the youngsters around the park which seems to settle the team and thats what helps them play good football. They might start to drop and lose alot of points like last year if they dont keep their experienced oldies on the park, they have direction, unlike Normanhurst and GHSt, not enough experience and direction which is what you need if you want to play finals football. I would love to see what you think about my comments and if you want to change some of your predictions, see who you think will be your new positions will be.

Andy, Although we are 5 games in, a better indication is at the end of round one when everyone has played each other. Also, with Penno getting back it's 2 top players from last season i would not ride them off yet. 5 games in and no one has really dominated. There are 5 teams in striking distance of 1st spot which is a credit to the strength of the competition, but it's really about who turns up on the day. Teams that procrastinate or go through the motions will drop points and give others the opportunity to pounce.
