Mr EUS, you're a champ. Great read.

It all comes down to this, gents! 11 v 11 on the vast expanses of Christie Park, 10 first choice penalty takers sweating bullets should the need arise, 9-ty minutes of commitment to the cause (120+ if necessary), 8 other clubs watching each game from the grandstand, 7 brews per man in the stands to get them through a cool Christie afternoon/evening, 6 corner flags flapping in the breeze (including the two on halfway!), 5 subs itching to calm the nerves and get involved, 4 teams vying for a taste of grand final glory, 3 referees doing their best to go largely unnoticed, 2 trophies up for grabs, 1 minute of stoppage time left to influence the result in your favour. Worth fighting for? You betcha! Let's kick-off and assess the grand finals... Reserve Grade KEN vs PHD At 5pm on Monday 8 June the PHD reserve grade side sat languishing in 9th place on the table (7 points from 8 games) ahead of only the worst performed reserve grade side in recent memory. Remarkably, at 5pm this Saturday they could be holding aloft the champions trophy! Make no mistake this is a fairytale run worthy of a B-grade Hollywood movie script with Channing Tatum starring as Blake “Magic Mike’ Rosier!! Monday 8 June, 82 days ago come Saturday, is the last time the Pumas tasted defeat - to their grand final opponents in a tight Queen's Birthday home loss. Kenthurst, meanwhile, had their only loss of the season two days earlier at the graveyard that is Eastwood Oval. That means both sides take 12-game undefeated streaks into the big one. Has this ever occurred in GHFA grand final history? Surely not! On paper the first placed Bushboys (45 points) seem specials to do the business again over their old sparring partner the fourth placed Pumas (33 points). The stingiest defence in the PL is complemented by the guile and trickery of old stalwarts Seale and Pintabona up front. They've won twice against the Pumas this year - 2-1 on opening day and 1-0 on the double header weekend as mentioned. The Hawks were clinically dispatched by them 4-1 last Saturday too. But the Pumas are a force to be reckoned with having ridden their unbelievable momentum right through to the decider. It took 120 minutes and almost the last kick of the game on Wednesday night. But 10 goals in two finals matches breeds no end of confidence and is an ominous sign for the boys from the bush. Will the older, wiser heads of the Kenthurst 2nd XI prove their big game credentials yet again? Or will the Justin Bieber hairdo’s of Langford and co. win the day? Can the battle hardened younger legs of the Pumas heal the scars of 2014 with an astonishing triumph over their arch nemesis? Call it crazy but an upset could be on the cards here. I'm a Belieber! Mr EUS predicts: PHD 3-2 First Grade EEW vs STA A fitting first grade finale featuring feisty foes from not too far afield forms the feature game for season twenty-fifteen at five PM. 1-0, 1-0, 1-2, 1-0. Believe it or not these sides have met four times this year (one a cup game, one last week’s major semi) with the Tigers winning 3 of the 4 by the solitary goal. Were it a grand slam tennis match the Tigers would be back in the locker room with a victory in the bag. But if they want to be crowned winners of the treasured premiers/champions double they need to go one more set with the 50% ginger-haired Woodies line-up and their Kyrgios-like potty-mouthed supporters. Consistency is the key to winning PL trophies, so fittingly it is the two most consistent sides of season 2015 who will fight it out for grand final glory. The Tigers are deserving of their spot in the decider. Back to their miserly ways last Saturday they turned away their crosstown rivals in a hard fought 1-0 victory. The yellow and black rely on the hard-nosed approach of Mouyis and co. down back, play some nice tick-tack-toe through the middle with Petza and his young mosquito fleet buzzing around, then feed off Turner up front to bring them results. The Woodies, meanwhile, are similarly solid down back with Crowie and co. taking no prisoners, the Big Red wiggle patrolling the midfield, snuffing out opposition attacking raids, and their route one long balls towards the evergreen Pearso, Horse and co. the order of the day. This method served them well on Wednesday night as they banged five past a hapless Hawks outfit. 3 games in 8 days is a stretch but with a full squad now focused on this one prize and another local derby to whet the appetite you’d have to think they’ll be bang up for it. For the Tigers they’ll want to make hay while the sun shines and fill the Boronia trophy cabinet with as much silverware as possible in 2015 after some lean years. Will Crowie or Mouyis fail to control their white line fever and see red again? Will Horse and his fellow Woodies get the shutout they so desperately crave? Will the floodlights reflecting off Geoff Turner’s flowing blonde locks bedazzle the St Andrew’s defenders? Who will it be singing ‘There’s only one team in Eastwood!’ come 7pm (or was that 7:30pm) Saturday? Mr EUS predicts: EEW 2-1 aet Best of luck, gents. May the best teams win!

Fantastic read son. Although i think it will be KEN in ressies and STA in first grade. Kenthurst are far too strong! Sir Luke got it wrong last week with playing Stegs in ressies and Nate Gray in ressies. They were destroyed in firsts because of it! But they will not leave this calendar year without a Grand Final Trophy, it's simply not the Bushboy way. Also, Lookout for the KEN young boys on the sideline. The John Mosman U19/1's squad will be down to cheer you all on and hopefully sign their contracts for 2016 after the match. Youth is what you guys need next season to match those hard heads you have on the pitch! We found that first grade this year EEW are pretty simple to play against. Camp your last line in your half and play counter attack football. Add in a few stomps on Mouysis toes which will get him sent off and it's game over! Best of luck lads - Go the red and white!

Doubles very hard to come by. Always leaves a mixed taste when a team doesn't win a double. Sta the best team clearly tonight and deserved their win against an eew team who hobbled over the line.

They stole it and as I said last week dirtiest team in comp. Funniest part of night was George Hodgkiss awarding medal to STA No.2 as best on ground. Only thing he won was the ability to kick Turner more than the other six or seven grubs around him. Ref must have RSI this morning for the number of times he had to reach for a card. And the other great irony, Turner was first to be booked. You couldn't make this shit it up. Finally, it must be said on the overall day, the association couldn't run a choko vine over a dunny door.

Sure, Turner got plenty of free kicks by falling over everytime he went near an opponent, but all soft fouls. His yellow was a late cheap shot - yellow any day. Woodies unlucky not to steal it in injury time as shutout Horse beat two to break free down the right. Meanwhile Tigers were cramping up everywhere. In the end Tigers lost it despite some great keeping in the shoot out. No keeper can win it for you when you miss 3/6 pens including putting two on the M2.

Very even game where only a handful of half chances created in the first 90 minutes on the Christie bobbling goat track. Neither keeper were stretched to make a save of note and you sensed the first goal would seal it.

EEW scored a goal in the first half of extra time where a long low shot was flicked in. The best defensive team though out the year thought they were odds on to keep a clean sheet and win the game and possibly celebrated that goal too much. A few minutes later from a corner Red Cat jumped high and met the cross nicely to square it up. Remainder of the game was a crampathon as the high work rate from both sides and possibly a super long warm up for a game that started over a hour late took it's toll.

STA first penalty was nicely hit but was well saved. EEW had their second penalty saved. Both teams missed their firth penalties and as with all shootouts at Christie, the team who first hits a penalty onto the M2 loses.

Turner was dangerous up front but needs more runners to lay off to. He tried to thread through 3 opponents too often and was softly fouled / checked when trying to squeeze through some narrow gates out wide by several STA players but not by No 2. In such a defensive game I didn't think there was an obvious MOTM.

Good luck to EEW in the COC's.

Any report on the ressies game seeing as it was the only one on the day to get a result in normal time

Ressies
wrote on 30-Aug-15 13:02

Good battle in ressies. Pretty even contest. Kenthurst up 2-0 at half time with Kenthurst on top. The pumas came back second half as Kenthurst ran out of legs and was a pretty scrappy 2-1 win in the second half. Congrats to Kenthurst for ending the pumas 12 game unbeaten run.

Ran out of legs? Pumas could only manage a goal from a bad penalty decision

Nate Gray and juice owned rosier 2nd half. He couldnt even score when the ball was a foot off the goal line right in front of him.

Blake Rosier is definately a first grader. As soon as he came on the field the pumas dominated proceedings. Best player on the pitch by a mile and gave the small centre back from Kenthurst a lesson.

Always a good battle

Plenty of banter but I saw no attempted jabs or anything thrown. If the STA supporters were going to throw stuff they'd have done so when four of their players ran straight to the crowd to taunt them after scoring first. Didn't happen.

Correct he is a first grader. They put him on the team sheet as a keeper so he could qualify for ressies.. Talk about desperate for a trophy.. Hardly dominated. Had 1 shot from 30 cms and missed it.. Try playing 90 mins you fat prick..

To be fair the kenthurst keeper had a blinder of a game including stopping that 30cm effort somehow. Player of the match for me. We dominated the 2nd half though couldn't translate on the score board. Well done kenthurst on another excellent season.

I wanted to say congrats to both EEW and STA for playing a really intense and exciting final. The ground made pretty football difficult but I did enjoy the rivalry on the field and in the stands. Both sets of fans singing songs and generally a really good atmosphere. I don't know about anything regarding bottles being thrown but was a good grand final to go watch. End of the day, the best two teams in 2015 and it went down to the wire. Congrats to STA on the day.

Report
wrote on 30-Aug-15 23:06

i was behind the goals and the half pissed EEW crowd were yelling all kinds of abuse at the STA keeper( some way below the belt), but no punches thrown or what not. It was a long day and a very cold night! For me, EEW had more possessions, but looked pretty toothless in attack, when they went through the middle an STA defender would fould turner or #10, then they get the free kick and bomb it in the box. EEW didn't win a header all night agains the back 4 and big red of STA. Looked comical near the end, they persisted with the same tactics all night which simply didnt work. STA on the other hand had a few handful of chances but nothing much, looked like they were playing for penalties. Was a very physical match, thought Grant Reid got most of the decisions right, with possibly a few STA challenges being let go. STA could have easily finished with 10 or 9 men. Turnes yellow was defn a yellow, more out of frustration than anything else. Reserve Grade: Kenthurst had puma's covered by a long shot. Although it was 2-1, Pumas were not allowed to play their keeper on the field as he is an first grader and he was the only one that gave them any problems. Looked like Kenthurst simply put their 2nd string side on after being up 2-0.

Report we were all over ken in the second half. If not for old man juice we would have killed it. Not sure why he didn't get man of the match but we only have ourselves to blame for not taking our chances. Rosier still doesn't know how he missed from the goal line. Was still a great battle as it always is with ken. Maybe next year we'll go one better.
